I/O : 80

I/O : 80

When starting out, some artists find their sound. Ken I/O found four of them. This EP is a time capsule from the mid-1980s — four tracks in four directions. From the cold pulse of New Order-influenced dance floor electronics to sun-drenched pop-rock hooks, neon-lit new wave atmosphere, and a closing track that splits the difference between U2's stadium yearning and Nine Inch Nails' industrial unease — it covers ground that most artists wouldn't attempt in an entire career. What holds it together isn't genre. It's the instinct of a writer who was listening to everything — and had the nerve to write it all down.
